Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship.
- Entrepreneurship is not just about undertaking new businesses. It includes intrapreneurship. This is entrepreneurship practised at the workplace by employees in existing or established, normally large organisations.
- Different from entrepreneurship, where individuals start businesses, intrapreneurship may involve employees setting up new projects or departments, introducing new products, markets, or a new way of doing things in the organisation. With participation of the other employees, systems, teamwork, and resources, intrapreneurship can be undertaken at lower risk with fewer resource and skills constraints, and a better chance of success than entrepreneurship.
- Both entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship are based on the same principles. They both involve identifying viable opportunities and mobilising resources to provide the required goods or services. Similarly, the two involve risk-taking and innovation. Individuals exposed to intrapreneurship could, therefore, be able to become entrepreneurs, setting up their own businesses upon leaving salaried employment, and organisations supporting intrapreneurship may be sowing seeds for entrepreneurship.
